ŠVANDA THEATRE TRAVELS THE WORLD

Canada, Israel and the USA. Švanda's theatre goes global, invites foreign theatre companies to Prague
Shoah in Israel, Girl on a Trampoline in Canada and the United States
Švanda Theatre has several foreign tours coming up this year: on June 10, we will be a guest at the Khan Theater in Jerusalem with the drama Shoah, which will then be performed at the Malenky Theatre in Tel Aviv on June 12. The production, presented in Czech with Hebrew subtitles, will feature Marta Dancingerová and Miroslav Hruška, directed by Daniel Hrbek. The guest performance is a co-production with the Czech Centre Tel Aviv led by Jan Štern.
From September 15 to 25, our artists will travel to Toronto and Chicago with the production of A Girl on a Trampoline directed by Martin Františák, artistic director of Švanda Theatre.
In addition to theater performances at the Maja Prentice Theatre in Toronto and the Chopin Theatre in Chicago, the Švanda Theater is also preparing creative workshops for students of local universities: In Canada, it is The University of Toronto, Centre For Drama and Performance Studies, in the USA it is Northwestern University in Chicago. "In both countries, it is a dignified and exceptional opportunity to present high-quality Czech drama to local audiences. The continuity of developing existing contacts and establishing new partnerships is also essential," says Daniel Hrbek.
In this context, he recalls the successful cooperation of the Švanda Theater with Georgetown University in Washington, The New School in New York and the University of Chicago. This took place in the pre-COVID years and the current guest performance is an indirect continuation of it. Incidentally, artists from this theater will also travel to New York and Washington this year. As part of the preparation of a new version of Čapek's play R.U.R., wewill fly there at the end of September.
