      Leading Czech director, playwright and poet, artistic director of the Švanda Theater in Smíchov since the 2019/2020 season.

      Martin Františák was born on March 5, 1974 in Valašské Meziříčí. 

      He studied drama education and subsequently drama directing at the JAMU Faculty of Theater in Brno, but above all he met a number of personalities key to his further work: Alexei Pernica, Arnošt Goldflam, Zoya Mikotová, Pavel Švanda and others.

      He is also an experienced author of many dramatizations and theatrical adaptations; the latter include the adaptation of Mahen's Jánošík and Homer's Odyssey for the Brno National Theater or Tolstoy's Anna Karenina for the Klicperovo Theatre in Hradec Králové.

      As a director, he now has sixty theatrical productions to his credit; in addition to the theatre houses he headed, he repeatedly collaborated with professional theaters throughout the Czech Republic.
